The City has not drafted an Ordinance that promotes the use of Universal Design Principles in new construction and rehabilitation of housing. However, the City's Building Division follows the 2016 California Building Code Part 2, Volume 1, Chapters 11A, Housing Accessibility, and 11B, Accessibility to Public Buildings, Commercial Buildings and Public Housing when evaluating all proposed developments. These chapters apply to all new multi-family residential development and require that a certain percentage of units within a multi-family residential development be adaptable and accessible. This policy will continue to be implemented on a case-by-case basis.
